1. BALCONY - A part of the building usually enclosed by a railing or balustrade that projects from either an inside or outside wall of a building.

2. BATTENS - Narrow strips of timber mainly used for flooring and hanging roof tiles

3. BAY WINDOW - A window, usually at the front of a house, that projects outwards from the wall of a room and is supported by its own foundation.

4. BEARER - Timbers spanning from post to post under a house and carrying the floor joists.

5. BEDROCK - The solid rock under all the various soils and other superficial formations.

6. BID - An offer made in person to buy at a given price a thing which is being sold by auction.

7. BODY CORPORATE - Under current Strata Title legislation relating to Villas, Town Houses, Flats and Home Units, the control and administration of common property is vested in a statutory Body Corporate which comes into existence automatically on the registration of the strata plan, and to which the provisions of the Companies Act do not apply. The registered owners of the units are the only members of the Body Corporate. The rights and obligation are controlled by scheduled by-laws. Easements for the protection and enjoyment of the units and common property are also provided for. The name can also be used for shareholders in Units under Company Title. A strata manager is usually appointed to chair a body corporate.

8. BRICK VENEER - A building which has brick external walls and with some other material used as the internal walls, usually plaster or Gyprock on a timber frame

9. BRIDGING FINANCE - When purchasers need to settle on a real estate transaction prior to the selling of their current asset there is often the need to obtain temporary finance to cover the bridging period. Under these circumstances bridging finance (a temporary loan - approx. six months or less) is obtained to fill time gap in order to comply with the terms of the contract in regard to settlement pending the availability of the long term loan.
